Did you miss it?

In yesterday's webinar "AI in Action: How unions are using AI today", we heard inspiring examples of how union staff and organisations are already using AI to strengthen their work and support members better.

From using AI to help analyse complex workplace policies and develop engaging member workshops, to building systems that can search through hundreds of collective agreements, our panellists described a number of innovative uses of responsible AI.

Union staff experimenting with AI

You'll hear the stories of two union staff from the UK who have participated in the AI Fundamentals training courses Unions 21 runs. Both emphasise the importance of hands-on experience and proper training in understanding AI's capabilities and limitations:

  • Louisa from the Royal College of Nursing describes using Microsoft Copilot for case plan letters, reducing the time each takes from 20 to 3 minutes, while ensuring data privacy.

  • Jo from Prospect detailing her journey from initial AI skepticism to using ChatGPT for workshop development, including creating role-play scenarios and checking for potential biases.

Unions rolling out AI experiments

Then you’ll hear the stories of two European unions that are looking at how AI can be used across their union.

  1. Rob from FNV talks about their “AI Lab”, explaining how they collected 80 use cases from across the union. He details their work on a collective bargaining agreement assistant, which aims to handle complex queries across 800 agreements.

  2. Stephen and Johan from ACV CSC share their systematic approach to implementing Microsoft Copilot across their organisation, including a system to quickly categorise hundreds of emails sent every day to a shared email inbox. They also describe the development of an AI policy focusing on human oversight, data privacy, transparency, and sustainability.

AI software designed for unions

Finally, you’ll hear from the makers of two AI software tools being developed in the USA to support progressive organisations, including unions. They stress the importance of having AI tools aligned with union values and needs.

  1. Maya from Battleground AI discusses how this AI-powered advertising tool combines first-party and third-party data to create more effective messaging for progressive organisations.

  2. Michael from The Change Agent explains their open-source alternative to corporate AI tools, emphasising its importance for grassroots unions and describing features like mini GPTs for federated organisations.
